All About Me

"You don't drown by falling in the river, you drown by staying submerged."

-Unknown

My love for natural healing started when I was really little. My mom and dad would tell me about how their parents and grandparents would go in the woods to find plants for medicine. When I got older, I was able to go in the woods with my dad and he would point out these plants they would forage for healing.  I always found it amazing how they would just know a plant could be used as medicine. Because of this, I was always reading and studying about natural healing. Looking back it's amazing how God put those interests on my heart to study something that would be useful for me later on.

Growing up, I always had allergies.  It was a constant battle to figure out what I was allergic to because it always seemed to change.  Some years I had major food allergies; other years it would be to certain chemicals, soaps, and detergents but the struggle was all year long.  The reactions ranged from mild to extreme; I was always on some antihistamine and even had emergency medications for when my symptoms were severe.  I also always had headaches and migraines. I was always told they run in the family; it was something I would have to manage.

In my 20s, I ended up having a serious blood clot. It was at this time, I found out that I had two variations on the MTHFR gene.  I had never heard about this and poured into the research; literally reading everything I could get my hands on about it. Unfortunately, at the time, there was not a lot of research on it and surprisingly, my doctors didn't know anything about it. (As a matter of fact, to this day, I have only had two primary care doctors that have ever treated patients with it!)

I was still having horrible allergy problems.  My doctors kept changing my medications because they all would eventually stop working for me. I continued having migraines, some lasting for weeks at a time. My energy was terrible. I kept getting blood clots, even though I was on medication for it.  I developed anxiety. My PMS was terrible.  I had hidradenitis.  I never felt rested even though I got the recommended hours of sleep.  I had sensitivities that I didn't used to have, like caffeine. I would sweat easily. My knees would swell and hurt. When I picked up my meds from the pharmacy, they gave me the BIG bag...it was embarrassing.  But one day, I knew I had to do something about ALL OF IT! I took this class online and it taught some Traditional Chinese Medicine.  I started using those principles, nourishing my body, and the hidradenitis never came back. That is when I knew I was on to something.  I started researching herbal remedies more and enrolled in an herbal medicine certification.  I knew I needed more in depth information and decided to get certified as a Functional Nutrition Coach.  I started realizing that all my health issues were connected, even my MTHFR and my childhood issues. This connection is called  the "Root Cause".  By treating the root cause, you can nourish the body to heal the problem!  Everything I was ever given by doctors, was only addressing the symptoms. That is why nothing ever worked for very long and my symptoms always came back. I stopped taking all of the allergy medications that I had been relying on since childhood.  Everything was healing.  My headaches disappeared. My sleep is incredible.  I have more energy than I did years ago! Even my knees stopped swelling and hurting. But around this same time, my husband's health issues were becoming serious.

His issues may have started out as "small" or "common" but as time passed they became more severe.  Not only that, one issue became two, then three and so on.  It felt like each doctor visit was resulting in a new diagnosis and at least one new prescription that just added to the growing list.  At one point, I counted over 15 diagnoses! Any one diagnosis would be deemed serious by itself but the list kept growing.  I began looking into the diagnoses, medications, his blood work and started noticing that there were some commonalities amongst them.

I started telling him that he could heal himself.  He wasn't really on board at first, but why would he be?  All these doctors had put it in his mind that he was always going to have to deal with these issues, just like mine did.  The only thing they could really do is either change his prescription or dose or send him to some type of therapy so he could learn to live with it.  When he was taking these prescriptions, they may have provided some relief for a short amount of time, but they were only masking the problem.  These drugs were not healing him.  The imbalances were still there, getting worse, and creating more damage and problems elsewhere.

BUT one day he came to me and said, "I'll do it!  I'll do anything, just tell me what to do because I can't get any worse!"  And the very first thing I had him do was add some fresh squeezed lemon juice to a large bottle of water to take with him to work to drink.  I know he either thought I had lost my mind or he had lost his for agreeing to it (LOL).  That simple first step led to another and another and before long, he was feeling better.  He was going to the doctor to get off medications because he didn't need them any longer.   Issues started resolving that we had not started focusing on yet! The answer is simple; the body is always healing itself.  You need to set yourself up for success, to provide an environment where your body can repair, be restored, and maintain balance.  When one system is strong and balanced, the body can and will start giving energy and resources to another to heal that too.

I believe that all this happened to me for a reason and that reason was for me to help others.  I want to help you feel your best, get your life back, be happy and strong.  Most of the steps are so simple and easy, it is pretty amazing.  I want to teach you how to listen to your body so that you can nourish yourself.  When you are ready to take the first step, just let me know.
